ah, summer solstice "sun standing", only i haven't really seen you shinning today. you better not be staying in the usual sunny places, canada needs your bright glowing warm brilliance to great us and stay for a month or so. for the first day of summer, it ain't that warm out. i'm actually a tad chilly... if only i could hop on a plane and go to a hidden beach with gorgeous aqua coloured water. that would be spectacular and blissful. for now i suppose i'll just gaze at this photo and envision myself laying in the sand while the suns rays tickle my skin as it turns my body golden.
as for my first day of summer, it hasn't been very summery but it has been a great day so far. i went to the food bank with a couple co-workers and helped making hampers, handing them out, and handing out veggies, snacks, and some essentials. i got moved around to quite a few stations in those 4 hours, would have stayed longer but i have to go to work in about an hour. the part i enjoyed the most was handing them items (such as butter/cheese/extra little things when no one was watching) and watching their face light up as they said thank you. and when they cracked jokes it simply put an even greater smile on my face. just to know that they are struggling to make ends meet (some privileged to have homes, families, and some with nothing) and to see them so polite, grateful, and content warmed my heart (because people who seem to have everything or a comfortable life sometimes lack these qualities-you got it good be grateful for it). and i pray this will only be a phase in there life, that they will do all the things they dreamed of and keep going. like one of the women said to me near the end of the shift "gotta end your day with a good laugh, if not then just don't end it all..."
